The north central region of Florida is made up of twelve counties, east of the northwest region or the Florida Panhandle. Much like the northwest region of Florida, the north central region is considered to be tied to the Deep South by the historical culture and cool climate; different form the semi-tropical climate of the Florida Peninsula. Gainesville is the largest city in the region and home of the University of Florida, as well as, several community colleges and vocational schools.

The twelve counties within the North Central region of Florida are Alachua County, Bradford County, Columbia County, Dixie County, Gilchrist County, Hamilton County, Lafayette County, Levy County, Madison County, Suwannee County, Taylor County, and Union County.
