Lee County was established in 1887 and located in the Southwest region of Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. It is the largest county in the southwest region and make up the entire Fort Myers-Cape Coral metropolitan statistical area. The city of Fort Myers is the county seat and Cape Coral is the largest city by population. Lee County is known for it beautiful beaches and islands. According to the U.S. Census Bureau Fact Sheet, the total population in Lee County for 2005 was 539,097.
